The instructions on this page are only basic and will get you started so that you can try the online demo. Once you are familiar with the program the other flash tutorials and downloaded pdf manual will unleash the full power of the online web site builder.

 Lets Get Started

There a easy five steps to compiling your website once you have started the online demo (Start, Design, Pages, Edit, Publish). The same applies if you have signed up for a package and are publishing your actual site.

Select Interface language - English, United States from the drop down box (normally the default setting)

1. Start choose the Create your site option then click on the  move to next tab at the bottom right.
2. Design from the categories list choose a template that you think will suit your website. Don't be too concerned if the banner is out of character as most of the templates allow for a custom banner which can be designed to suit your website ie: changing a sporting template into a business template etc. If you are using the default banners you can choose an alternative from the drop down box.
   Note: in demo mode custom banners can not be uploaded.
   
   Now complete the Site info box ( we will use our information as an example)

   Now click on next at the bottom to move to pages.
3. Pages we always use personal from the Page sets at the top left because you will be adding or deleting some of them and will be renaming them to suit your own needs so they are the best and easiest set to use.
   
   To add a page you simply tick the box in either Standard or Special pages next to the page you want then click on the arrow which points at Your site structure on the left hand side and your page will now be added. To remove a page just do the same thing in reverse.
   
   Don't worry that the pages have wrong names because this is fixed in the next section. Once again click next to move to Edit.
4. Edit from the scrolling box at the top left choose the page you wish to edit and once it comes up we will set it to become search engine friendly.
   Page title - this renames all those wrong names earlier to page names you want. Examples of common names - Home, Welcome, About Us, Gallery, Contact Us etc. keep these short as they are used for your navigation buttons.
   Page file name - the html or php file names search engines look for so keep short but search engine friendly. Example Bad page1.html Good galan-contact-us.html.
   Sitebuilder uses .html pages if your website is static. If you add dynamic components it will automatically change to .php to allow use of the server side scripting you don't need to do anything.
   Page keywords - some search engines still index keywords and a good idea is to use a few which are mentioned in the page text. Separate with a comma example for a photographers keywords and short key phrases: weddings, wedding photography, portraits, commercial, albums, etc. Don't use more than about 20 and never repeat the same ones as this is spamming a search engine.
   Page description - very important as this is the description you see in a search engine search. Using our photographer example again - Gary Alan Studios are Photographers located in Hobart, Tasmania. We offer excellent packages for weddings, portraits and commercial photography. 
   You can vary this on your different pages to reflect the content of that particular page.
   
   Now simply type your content into the Microsoft Word style word processor saving your page on a regular basis as you go. If you want to add images read our managing images page. Once you are happy click next once again to move to publish.
5. Publish - You can view your demo but until you have a hosting account you cannot publish. Once you have a hosting account we will setup the ftp function which will automatically publish you website and any changes you make to your domain.
